Getu Gizaw is an Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition at Jimma University, Ethiopia, and a seasoned academic and researcher with extensive experience in maternal and child health, acute malnutrition management, and public health nutrition across humanitarian and development settings. With more than nine years of involvement in observational studies and randomized controlled trials, he has contributed significantly to evidence generation on the impacts of malnutrition and the effectiveness of simplified, community-based treatment approaches. He has played major roles in high-impact research, including a large UNICEF-supported randomized controlled trial evaluating cost-effective strategies for treating acute malnutrition, where he contributed to protocol development, data management, field coordination, staff supervision, training, and donor reporting. At Jimma University, he lectures on nutritional epidemiology, diet and disease, and emergency nutrition, supervises postgraduate students, and participates in institutional and national technical working groups focused on updating and adapting guidelines for wasting prevention and malnutrition management. Based in Addis Ababa, he also works as an independent consultant, specializing in study design, implementation research coordination, program monitoring and evaluation, and stakeholder engagement, supporting organizations in strengthening the quality and impact of public health and nutrition interventions.
