Dr. Sherin Mehani has a distinguished academic background in physical therapy. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Cairo University in May 1996, graduating with honors and a Very Good degree. She continued her education at Cairo University, completing her Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2003 with an Excellent degree, ranking first in her class with a score of 89%. Her master’s thesis focused on the effects of aerobic training on symptomatic mitral valve prolapse in females. Dr. Mehani pursued further specialization with a Ph.D. in Physical Therapy from Cairo University, awarded in 2007 with an Excellent degree and a score of 94%, again ranking first. Her doctoral research examined the role of aerobic training in patients with symptomatic idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. She achieved her Assistant Professor degree in Physical Therapy in 2012, with a Very Good rating of 99 points, and was promoted to Professor in 2018, with an exceptional rating of 99.3 points.

 

Professional Experience:

Dr. Sherin Mehani has enjoyed a distinguished career in physical therapy, marked by both academic excellence and administrative leadership. She began her professional journey as an Administrator at the Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University, from 1997 to May 2003, focusing on cardiovascular-respiratory disorders and geriatrics. She then progressed to Assistant Lecturer from May 2003 to October 2007, and subsequently served as a Lecturer in cardiac rehabilitation from November 2007 to November 2012. In 2012, she was promoted to Assistant Professor at Cairo University, where she remained until 2015.

In August 2015, Dr. Mehani transitioned to Beni-Suef University, taking on various important roles, including Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department for Internal Medicine. From March 2012 to 2021, she also served as Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs. Since 2021, she has been the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Therapy at Beni-Suef University, where she continues to contribute significantly to both the field of physical therapy and academic administration.

 

Activities:

Dr. Sherin Mehani has made significant contributions to the field of physical therapy through a range of roles and initiatives. From 2008 to 2012, she actively participated in Cairo University’s quality and accreditation plans as a faculty committee member and served as the secretary of the Graduate Studies and Research Committee. She was responsible for overseeing the laboratory for lung function and cardiopulmonary efficiency, supporting both academic research and clinical evaluations. Additionally, Dr. Mehani managed the pulmonary function testing and cardiopulmonary exercise testing lab at Cairo University.

Her commitment to education is evident through her creation of an e-learning course on cardiac rehabilitation for third-year students from 2009 to 2015 and her involvement in developing curricula for various courses, including exercise physiology and cardiopulmonary physical therapy. Dr. Mehani played a pivotal role in establishing student laboratories and outpatient clinics at Beni Suef University and organized the first student conference on modern electrical therapy techniques.

Dr. Mehani also supervised the Physical Therapy Studies Department at the National Institute for Science and Studies of the Elderly, preparing and overseeing numerous research plans. Her contributions extend to developing the research plan for the College of Physical Therapy and preparing postgraduate courses at Beni Suef University.
